K9 Stride Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how K9 Stride Ltd ("K9 Stride," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use the K9 Stride app and related services (the "Service").

Global baseline standard

K9 Stride is used by people around the world. Because we have users in the United Kingdom, we comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 for all users, as a global baseline standard, regardless of where you are located. Where your local law gives you additional rights, those also apply to you.

1. Who We Are (Data Controller)

K9 Stride Ltd is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

Contact email: info@k9stride.co.uk

If you are in the UK or EU and have concerns we haven't resolved, you have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office — ico.org.uk).

We collect this data directly from you (when you register, subscribe, or use the app), automatically (through your use of the Service), and, where relevant, from our payment processor.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR Article 6)

We only process your personal data where we have a valid legal basis:

  • Contract — to create your account, provide the app's features, and process subscriptions/payments.
  • Consent — for optional features, marketing communications, or non-essential data, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to improve the Service, keep it secure, and understand usage patterns, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with tax, accounting, or regulatory requirements.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • Create and manage your account and subscription
  • Process payments and prevent fraud
  • Provide the core app functionality (tracking and displaying your dog's performance data)
  • Customer support and communication about the Service
  • Send service updates and, with your consent, marketing communications
  • Analyze usage to improve features and reliability
  • Comply with legal and regulatory obligations

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Who We Share Data With

We share data only where necessary, with:

  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe or similar) to process transactions
  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers who store app data on our behalf
  • Analytics providers to help us understand app usage (in aggregated or pseudonymized form where possible)
  • Professional advisers and regulators, where required by law
  • A buyer or successor, if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale — you'll be notified of any change in control of your data

All third parties are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

6. International Data Transfers

Because K9 Stride is used globally, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA), including countries that may not have data protection laws equivalent to the UK GDPR.

Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as:

  • The UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses
  • The EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), where relevant
  • Transfers to countries covered by a UK adequacy regulation

You can request more information about these safeguards by contacting us at info@k9stride.co.uk.

7. Data Retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes it was collected, including:

  • Account data: for as long as your account is active, plus a limited period afterward for legal/accounting purposes
  • Payment records: typically 6–7 years, to meet tax and accounting obligations
  • Support communications: typically up to 2 years

After these periods, data is securely deleted or anonymized.

8. Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal exceptions
  • Restrict processing in certain circumstances
  • Data portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Not be subject to solely automated decisions with significant effect, without human review

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@k9stride.co.uk. We will respond within one month, as required by law.

If you are located outside the UK, you may have similar rights under your local law (for example, the EU GDPR or, for California residents, the CCPA/CPRA), and we will honor those rights on request.

9. Data Security

We use technical and organizational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews — to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

10. Children's Privacy

K9 Stride is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Cookies and Tracking

If you access K9 Stride via our website, we may use cookies or similar technologies for functionality, analytics, and (with consent) marketing. See our Cookie Policy for details and how to manage your preferences.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you via the app or email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was last revised.
